Joy Doll Hospital, Inc. is overjoyed to announce we are a designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
July 2020
Joy Doll Hospital began with imagination, love and the spirit of giving. And now with designation as a tax-exempt nonprofit the message we deliver can be amplified. We are committed to growing our partnerships with organizations that help to brighten the lives of children in crisis and to spread joy in the world.
The new tax-exempt status allows us to greatly expand the reach of our mission by allowing for tax-deductible donations of new, used or damaged American Girl dolls, doll clothing, doll parts, doll accessories, or funds. The Doll Doctor will still ply her skills to lovingly repair, restore and transform each doll into a Joy Doll. Once ready, each Joy Doll is packaged with changes of clothes and a special message for her new girl. Through partnership with organizations like Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center, the Joy Dolls are gifted to children entering the foster system or living in children’s homes or otherwise separated from their families.
To ensure this mission endures, Joy Doll Hospital, Inc. is pleased to name Leah Barcus as Executive Director. As the founder of Joy Doll Hospital and the Doll Doctor, Leah will oversee the hospital’s operation, engage with our partners and spread her joyful message.
Supporting Leah with fundraising, marketing, legal, and accounting matters is the Board of Directors:
- President: Allison Barcus of Fredericksburg, VA
- Vice President: Julie Zimmer of Greenville, SC
- Treasurer and Secretary: Luke Frank of Stafford, VA
